Austria - The new Kainz & Mayer company ‘runs’ on Priva.
Two Austrian family companies have come together: vine tomato and cucumber grower Kainz and cucumber grower Mayer are going to grow vine tomatoes in partnership. The company was set up at the start of 2008 and is building a new greenhouse in Obersiebenbrunn, some 30 kilometres from Vienna. The Directors, Peter Kainz and Thomas Mayer discovered Priva as a partner for automating their new nursery.
‘This step is a clear choice for expansion', said Kainz & Mayer. ‘Our previous nurseries were much smaller and we both then had our own suppliers for climate control, amongst other things. For our new nursery, we were looking for a partner in that field who could optimally support our growth. We also wanted local service and a reliable supply of spare parts. Following discussions with our consultant we decided on Priva.’ The two Directors had heard of Priva through the grapevine and knew of the worldwide network of dealers. ‘Garten Bau Centrum (GBC) in Vienna, who we have being doing business with for years, is also a Priva dealer and that made the choice very easy’, says Kainz. Work experience with a fellow Dutch grower who was already working with Priva systems confirmed the good opinion of it.
Options for the future
Kainz and Mayer, partly from an energy-saving perspective, are having their new vine tomato greenhouse equipped with the latest technology, from a drain sensor system and shading to cultivation gutters and CO2 dosing. This total solution came about partly thanks to Oskar Kdolsky at GBC. He says that the role of the dealer should not be underestimated: ‘We know the market, we have parts in stock and we act as a link between Priva and the grower.' Amongst other things, technology partner Marschick is installing an Intégro process computer with Priva Office, two NutriFlex tailor made irrigation units, each of 100 cubic metres per hour, a drain sensor system and fans for improved air circulation in Kainz & Mayer's greenhouse. Peter Kainz says: ‘In the technology sphere, Priva offers the best solution and also provides us with new options for the future. We are considering growing tilapia and Priva can also support us in that. The systems are user-friendly and innovative; we expect to be able to control our company considerably more efficiently with them.’
