At the Horticulture Trade Fair in Venlo, the contract for the supply of a new Priva Connext process computer was signed by PTC +, Hogeschool Van Hall Larenstein (VHL) Wageningen, Van der Arend and Priva. This process computer is an important part of the practical teaching environment Crop Growth Circumstances that is realised at PTC+ in Ede, the Netherlands.
International students studying International Horticulture and Marketing of VHL in Wageningen will make use of the PTC+ facilities. This will play a vital role in offering students the chance to practice Crop Growth. In recent years, Wageningen has developed a great collaboration with PTC+, with students training to grow and support crops independently, integrating the theory
learned in the classroom with practice
at PTC+, something that has been
made possible by the delivery of
the Priva Connext process computer.
By exploring the possibilities offered by the new Priva Connext process computer, the students are quickly able to gain insight into the complex processes of photosynthesis and crop growth, analysed by the large number of sensors placed throughout the greenhouse. The students can see how the plant responds to different growth conditions, experiment with data and analyse information collected for the purpose of their theory-based studies back in Wageningen. Because Priva is active in a great number of countries, international students are able to make comparisons between the growing conditions of the greenhouses of PTC+ Ede with the growth conditions of their homeland, leading to interesting and diverse case studies and project work.
The new facilities at PTC+ Ede are made possible by a grant from the government under the new regime Box3 Practical Learning funds. In late January, using the funds, the Priva Connext process computer was installed by Van der Arend Horticultural Technology, a long term supplier of PTC+, working with the institution since 1990. All secondary and higher education establishments in the Netherlands can now use the new Priva Connext at PTC+.
