'Green solution' obtains comfortable results with help from Priva Building Intelligence
Kent & Essex Mutual Insurance Company in Chatham, Ontario, went ‘green’ when they installed their new HVAC system two years ago. The twenty-two digitally controlled heat pumps throughout the building were not only going to save energy, and therefore money, but also maintain a comfortable environment for the occupants.
Unfortunately, this did not prove to be the end result. Constant adjustments to the heat pump controls caused inefficiencies and discomfort for the occupants. Honey Electric Ltd., a certified Priva Partner, was called upon to install a Priva Building Automation System to control the heating, cooling and air handling.
Since the heat pumps were equipped with digital controls that could not communicate through a BACnet interface to a central controller, the Priva Top Control software and hardware was installed to control both the individual heat pumps and provide central control. This reduces energy consumption, while simultaneously raising the comfort level throughout all areas of the building.
With less hands-on ‘tweaking’ of the control system, the new Priva system has resulted in higher system reliability, greater employee comfort and a 30% plus energy savings. Now Kent & Essex truly has the ‘green’ system they desired.
