Belgium - Hilton Antwerp

Hilton Antwerp

With its new building control system Hilton Antwerp has successfully increased guest comfort and reduced energy costs.

The listed building which houses the Hilton Antwerp dates from 1835 and was fully renovated in 1993 and transformed into a hotel. The fifteen year-old building control system was replaced by an ultramodern Priva solution.

Increased energy efficiency

Switching to a new building control system was a logical step. The main aim of the replacement was to save energy. The old system heated and cooled simultaneously. This is no longer possible thanks to the new system. The result is increased energy efficiency and a welcome saving on energy costs.

Fewer complaints

The new building control system has resulted in a drop in the number of complaints of approximately 75%. This is possible due to the integration with all fire, safety and security installations, and with the hotel booking system too. Under the old system faults were only detected when rooms were occupied by guests. Thanks to the links continuous monitoring and control is now possible. This means that any faults are resolved before any guests move into their rooms in the hotel.

Cost savings

The new building control system results in cost savings because:

  • the link to the hotel booking system means only occupied rooms or heated or cooled
  • ventilation is optimised, and as a result only smoking rooms get extra ventilation instead of continuous ventilation.
  • there is the option to heat less during the winter and cool less during the summer in the case of a complete floor being temporarily unoccupied.

The Priva solutions provide a crucial contribution to lowering the total cost of ownership for Hilton Antwerp.

Sustainability

The renovation of Hilton Antwerp supports sustainable operation also. The Hilton chain has set itself a 2014 target of reducing water consumption by 10%, energy consumption, CO2 emissions and waste flows by 20% in comparison with 2008, which serves as the benchmark. The Priva building control system contributes towards achieving this aim.

Experiences in the hotel trade

In the Netherlands and Belgium dozens and dozens of hotels use Priva solutions to increase guest comfort and to achieve more efficient use of all installations. This group includes, amongst others, the renowned Amstel Hotel in Amsterdam, the famous Kurhaus in Scheveningen and various Hilton hotels.
